What to Expect: Our Garden Design Process from First Call to Final Reveal

A lot of people hesitate to call us because they’re not sure what happens next. They worry it’ll be complicated or that they’ll get locked into something before they’re ready. So let’s walk through exactly how we work, step by step.

The Initial Call

When you first reach out, we’ll have a quick conversation about what you’re looking for. Maybe you hate your front yard. Maybe your backyard is just grass and you want something more interesting. Maybe you have a specific problem like a muddy area or terrible drainage.

We’re not trying to sell you anything on this call. We just want to understand what you need and whether we’re a good fit. If it sounds like something we can help with, we’ll schedule a time to come see your property.

The Site Visit

This is where things get interesting. We’ll walk your entire property with you, and we’ll ask a lot of questions. How do you actually use your outdoor space? Where does the sun hit? Do you have kids or dogs? What do you love about your yard right now, and what drives you crazy?

We’re also looking at things you might not notice. Drainage patterns, soil quality, existing plants that should stay or go, views worth framing, eyesores worth hiding. We take photos and measurements.

This visit usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. There’s no charge for it, and you’re not obligated to move forward.

The Design Phase

Back at our office, we create a design based on everything we learned. This isn’t just a sketch on a napkin. You’ll get a detailed plan that shows where everything goes, what plants we’re proposing, and what hardscape elements like patios or paths we’re including.

We also put together a clear quote that breaks down the costs. No surprises, no vague estimates. You’ll know exactly what you’re getting and what it costs.

This takes about a week or two, depending on how complex your project is.

The Review Meeting

We sit down with you and walk through the design. This is your chance to ask questions, request changes, or tell us we’re completely off base. Most designs need at least minor tweaks based on client feedback, and that’s totally normal.

Want those hydrangeas moved to the other side? Done. Prefer stepping stones instead of a solid path? We can adjust that. Worried about maintenance? We can simplify the plant selections.

We revise until you’re genuinely excited about the plan.

The Installation

Once you approve the design and we get on the schedule, we show up with our crew and get to work. Depending on the project size, installation might take anywhere from a couple days to a couple weeks.

We start early, work efficiently, and clean up thoroughly at the end of each day. You’ll see progress happening quickly.

The Final Walkthrough

When we’re done, we walk the property with you and make sure you’re happy with everything. We’ll also give you care instructions for your new plants and answer any questions about maintenance.

After We Leave

We don’t just disappear. If something isn’t thriving or you have questions a few weeks later, call us. We want your garden to succeed, and we’re here to help make that happen.

The whole process, from first call to finished garden, typically takes 4-6 weeks. Sometimes faster if it’s a simple project, sometimes longer if it’s elaborate or we’re waiting for specific materials.

The point is, it’s straightforward. No mystery, no pressure. Just a clear path from “my yard is boring” to “I love spending time out here.”
